Gaijin Seat
“Ganjin Seat” is a term I came across on social media before my trip to Japan. It supposedly refers to the tendency of Japanese people to avoid sitting next to foreigners (or rather those who appear foreign) in public transportation. Although I didn’t really experience this phenomenon myself and therefore can’t confirm its accuracy, I found the image powerful enough to repurpose it and offer a glimpse of my own experience — taking my seat as a foreign tourist.
